HIFU

What Is HIFU?

HIFU stands for ‘High Intensity Focused Ultrasound’. This treatment can target various depths of the body’s tissue for skin tightening, skin lifting and body contouring. Entirely non-invasive, HIFU machines uses ultrasound to create heat at a deep level in the skin. This heat damages targeted skin cells, in a controlled way, forcing the body to repair them. To do this, the body must produce collagen which is essential for cell regrowth. Collagen is a substance in the skin that gives it structure and elasticity. HIFU is sometimes referred to as the ‘Lunchtime Face Lift’ as the treatment is quick, very tolerable and has no downtime.

What Areas Can HIFU Treat?

HIFU is an extremely versatile non-surgical treatment which can work for the face and body. HIFU treatment for the face works as a non-invasive facelift. It tightens the skin, irons out wrinkles, shrinks pores, targets the ‘V’ line formation and jowl lines. HIFU improves overall skin tone, pores, brightness, and elasticity. HIFU is ideal for body contouring as HIFU ultrasound energy can be used to target the fat layer and destroy fat cell. Post-pregnancy tummy, abdomen, thigh and under the buttocks fat can be tactically targeted. It can even tighten the skin on the knees and arms, helping to improve the ‘crepey’ look as well as vaginal tightening post-childbirth.

What Are the Benefits of HIFU?

HIFU increases the elasticity of the skin and the ‘snap-back effect’ as texture, tone and skin quality is improved. It can tighten and chisel the jawline creating a lift to combating sagging areas – targets face & neck. It can reduce unwanted pockets of fat, like jowls or submental fat (double chin). It can do all of this with no side effects and almost instant results, which not only improve over following 3-6 months but have none of the risks associated with cosmetic surgery and surgical facelifts.

What Are the Side Effects of HIFU?

As a non-invasive treatment, there is no pain or downtime with HIFU. Sessions usually last for around 30 minutes, with most patients able to return to normal activities immediately – hence why it is sometimes referred to as the ‘lunchtime facelift’. Some patients may experience some mild tenderness and redness of the skin, but this should subside within a few hours.

FAQs

How effective is HIFU?

HIFU is now recognised worldwide as one of the most effective non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatments available and a viable replacement for surgical facelifts. Everyone who has the treatment will see improvements and some people may notice smoother and firmer skin immediately.

Does HIFU work alongside other skin rejuvenation treatments?

Best results are often achieved when combing HIFU with other treatments such as wrinkle relaxing injections and dermal filler, or with the chemical peels.

Is HIFU safe?

HIFU treatments are safe as long as a medical CE marked device is used, and if a trained professional performs the treatment. There are also some copycat devices on the market that are dangerous and ineffective – thus, “home use” devices should never be used.

What does HIFU feel like?

You may experience slight discomfort during an HIFU procedure. Some people describe it as tiny electric pulses or a light prickly sensation. If you’re worried about pain, your doctor may suggest taking acetaminophen (Tylenol) or a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), such as ibuprofen (Advil), prior to treatment.

How many treatments are necessary?

Usually, results can be achieved within a single session, which is what makes this treatment so great. But depending on each patient’s expectations and goals, they may need to take a further treatment in order to maintain their results.

What is the downtime with HIFU?

HIFU treatments are very safe, and they barely have any side effects. As such, any person who goes through this treatment will be able to return to their normal activities immediately, even if that means going back to work.

Who cannot have HIFU?

Certain categories of people are not suitable for HIFU treatments. This includes people who are dealing with bad or cystic acne, open lesions at the targeted area, as well as metallic implants in the targeted area.
