Intimate Rejuvenation

What is Intimate Rejuvenation?

The vagina is susceptible to many changes over the course of a woman's life. Natural events such as childbirth, hormonal changes and muscular stress can have a major impact on this part of the body. Intimate rejuvenation (“IR”) refers to a variety of treatments that aim to provide a more youthful vagina both in terms of appearance and function. Non-surgical IR treatments can be broken down into two main categories: injectables and energy-based machines. Energy-based machines operate on the principle of using energy create controlled micro-injuries to the inner vaginal tissue or labia forcing the body to repair itself through the creation of new collagen and elastin. Collagen and elastin are two proteins that are important for maintaining the structure and function of the vagina. Injectables, like hyaluronic acid dermal fillers restore hydration, elasticity, tonicity, and sensitivity to the vaginal area as well as enhance the vagina’s appearance.

What Conditions Can IR Treat?

IR procedures are designed to improve the appearance and function of the vagina. These procedures may be used to address a variety of concerns, including:
1. Dryness: Vaginal dryness can cause discomfort during sexual activity and make the vagina more prone to infections. IR procedures help to improve lubrication and reduce dryness.
2. Laxity: The vaginal muscles can become stretched and loose over time, due to factors such as childbirth and ageing. IR procedures may help to tighten the muscles and improve the tone of the vagina.
3. Incontinence: Incontinence, or the inability to control the bladder, is a common concern for many women. IR procedures may help to improve the strength of the pelvic floor muscles, which can help to reduce incontinence.
4. Sexual discomfort: IR procedures may help to improve blood flow and sensation in the genital area, which can improve sexual enjoyment.
5. Labial puff: Decreases in oestrogen may contribute to laxity and deflation of the labial majora (the outer lips of the vagina) The wrinkling and laxity can be addressed with the injection of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers.

What are the Benefits of IR?

Non-surgical IR treatments typically take less than 15 minutes to perform, and most women notice significant improvements within 1 to 2 days after treatment, which also continue to improve with time and additional treatments. IR can improve the appearance of the vagina, including the labia, vaginal opening, and vulva, and this can translate enhanced sexual function from increased vaginal sensitivity and self-confidence. It can also help to alleviate discomfort caused by issues such as dryness, laxity, and incontinence. Treatments from energy-based devices, such as Ladylift, HIFU and C02 laser, can strengthen weak vaginal and pelvic muscles and improve the tightness of the vagina.

What Are the Side Effects of IR?

The non-surgical methods are non-invasive and therefore pose fewer risks than surgery. The potential risks and side effects of non-surgical IR, both from energy-based devices and injectables are redness, swelling, bruising, itching, tenderness, allergic reaction, and changes in skin tone at the treatment site. Limitations of the treatments can include the fact that multiple treatments are typically needed for optimal results, results are temporary, lasting up to 1 year and they may not be effective to treat significant tissue laxity or severely sagging labia.

FAQs

Who will perform the procedure?

IR treatments are performed by Dr Ellie Band. Dr Ellie is an IR expert and understands that the topic of vaginal rejuvenation is a sensitive subject for most women, yet one that is quite prevalent, so she is committed to making it easy for women to avail themselves of a multitude of non-surgical treatments in a discrete and comfortable setting. Why are IR treatments needed?

Studies have shown that approximately 40% of women suffer from sexual dysfunction and up to 50% of women have some degree of urinary incontinence. These problems are more common in pre- and post-menopausal women. They occur due to physical changes in the vulva and vagina, such as inflammation, thinning, and drying of the vaginal walls. Together, the changes are called vaginal atrophy. They develop due to lower levels of oestrogen hormone in the body after menopause. Vaginal atrophy can make sexual intercourse painful and cause lifestyle-limiting urinary symptoms, thus affecting your overall quality of life. Vaginal rejuvenation treatments can reverse some of these changes and provide relief from distressing symptoms.

How long should I wait to have sex after IR?

For non-surgical IR treatments, it is advised to wait at least 2 to 5 days to have sex. Check for signs of infection or bleeding before engaging in sexual intercourse. You should also refrain from using a tampon or inserting anything into your vagina during the recovery period.

What is labial puff?

Labial puff, also known as labial hypertrophy, is a condition in which the labia minora (the inner vaginal lips) are larger than normal. This can cause discomfort and embarrassment for some women. Injectable fillers, such as hyaluronic acid fillers, can be used to help reduce the size of the labia minora. During the procedure, the filler is injected into the labia minora to add volume and lift. This can help to reduce the appearance of excess tissue and create a more balanced, aesthetically pleasing appearance.

Is the hyaluronic acid dermal filler permanent?

Desirial treatment typically lasts for approximately 1-2 years. Results are visible immediately.

Where is PRP injected?

The platelet-rich plasma is injected into the labia, clitoris, and G-spot. There is very little risk of allergic reaction or contracting a contagious disease, because the PRP is extracted from your own blood.

PRP, hyaluronic acid dermal fillers or energy-based devices: Which is right for me?

Besides the PRP and hyaluronic acid dermal fillers other common methods of vaginal rejuvenation include Ladylift, HIFU and C02 Lasers. These treatments involve the use of a laser or ultrasound energy on the vaginal tissues. They are energy-based procedures that cause microscopic damage to the vaginal walls, which prompts the body to regenerate and heal the area. There are many factors that will decide which treatment is best for you, including your lifestyle and your symptoms. How does laser IR work in practice?

With this type of IR, tightening and toning occur when a probe (or wand) is inserted into your vagina and/or guided across your external genitals. The probe has a light- like top, which heats the tissue. Laser (or RF) vaginal rejuvenation treatment lasts anywhere from five to 30 minutes, depending on the type and intensity of the laser or RF waves and the procedure you’re having. Non-surgical vaginal rejuvenation is painless and requires no anaesthetic. Your provider may use a topical anaesthetic if discomfort occurs. The treatment area may feel warm or like a bee sting during the procedure. You’ll need to refrain from sex or using tampons for three to five days. You may experience some redness or swelling after treatment, but this should subside within 24 -48 hours. You may need several treatments before you reach your desired outcome.
