Endolift journal · Areas · 5 min readDefining the jawline in men without surgery: what really works

Men with mild to moderate loose skin and small fat pockets along the jaw and under the chin can often sharpen the jawline without surgery. Endolift tightens skin and reduces small fat deposits through a tiny entry point under local anaesthetic. It cannot build bone or add volume, and heavy, hanging skin is better treated surgically. Results vary.

Why the male jawline softens

A clean jawline depends on 3 things: firm skin, very little fat along the jaw and under the chin, and good bone structure underneath. With age, skin loses collagen and elasticity. Fat can settle along the jaw as early jowls, and small pockets under the chin blur the angle between the jaw and the neck. Weight changes, sun exposure and smoking all speed this up.

Men often notice it first in photos taken from the side, on video calls, or when a shirt collar starts to feel crowded. Many say their face looks heavier or more tired than they feel. A beard can hide some of the change, but it does not alter what is happening underneath, and many men would rather not depend on it.

What non surgical treatment can and cannot do

It helps to be clear about the limits before looking at options. No treatment without surgery can build a stronger chin bone or change the shape of the jaw itself. What non surgical treatments can do is tighten loose skin, reduce small pockets of fat, or add shape with filler. The right choice depends on which of these is actually causing the problem.

  • If the issue is mild to moderate loose skin and small fat pockets along the jaw and under the chin, a tightening treatment such as Endolift may help.
  • If the issue is a small or receding chin, filler or a chin implant changes the shape; tightening alone does not.
  • If the issue is heavy, hanging skin on the neck, surgery such as a neck lift usually gives a clearer result.
  • If the issue is general weight around the face and neck, weight loss comes first. Endolift is not a weight loss treatment.

Many men have a mixture of these. An honest assessment should tell you which matters most in your face, rather than offering the same treatment to everyone.

How Endolift works on the jaw and neck

Endolift uses a laser fibre between 200 and 600 microns wide, about the thickness of a hair, placed under the skin through a tiny entry point. The area is numbed with local anaesthetic. There are no incisions and no stitches. The genuine Endolift system uses the LASEmaR 1500 laser by Eufoton at a wavelength of 1470 nm, with original single use fibres.

That wavelength is strongly absorbed by water and fat, which leads to 3 effects. It contracts the fibrous bands under the skin, which gives some tightening straight away. It can liquefy small deposits of fat, which the body then clears. It also starts collagen remodelling, where weaker Type III collagen is gradually replaced by stronger Type I collagen. That is why the jawline usually keeps improving for around 6 months after treatment.

Male skin is often thicker, and many men have a beard. Neither rules out treatment, but both are worth discussing at the consultation so the plan fits your face. You can read more about treatment for men on the Endolift for men page and about the jaw specifically on the jowls and jawline page.

Treatment, recovery and risks

A jawline and neck session usually takes about 60 to 90 minutes, and most people need 1 session. You are awake throughout, with local anaesthetic in the treated area.

Afterwards, expect swelling, some bruising, redness and tenderness. The skin can feel numb for a while, and treated fat can feel firm or lumpy as it settles. Most of this eases within days, although numbness and firmness can take 1 to 2 weeks or longer. A compression strap is worn on the neck for 3 to 4 days. Most men return to work the next day or within 48 hours, though some swelling may still be visible.

There are rarer risks too. These include burns, uneven skin, infection, small scars at the entry points, and temporary weakness of a nerve. Along the jaw, the nerve that matters most is the marginal mandibular nerve, which helps control the lower lip. If it is irritated, the smile can look uneven for a period. This is uncommon, but anyone treating your jawline should explain it plainly before you agree. The side effects and safety page covers these in more detail.

Comparing the main options for men

OptionBest suited toMain limitation
EndoliftMild to moderate loose skin and small fat pockets along the jaw and under the chinDoes not add volume or remove heavy, hanging skin
Filler to the jaw or chinAdding shape and projection where bone structure is weakDoes not tighten loose skin or reduce fat
Fat dissolving injectionsSmall fat pockets under the chinDoes not tighten the skin, and often needs more than 1 session
Neck lift or faceliftHeavy, hanging skin and marked jowlsSurgery, with scars and a longer recovery; a London facelift usually costs £7,000 or more

Treatments are sometimes combined. A man with a small chin and some softening along the jaw might benefit from both shape and tightening, planned in a sensible order.

Cost and how long results last

At TK Medispa in Kensington, a single area such as the jowls or under the chin costs £1,500. The lower face, which covers the lower cheeks, jowls, chin and neck, costs £2,000. Both prices include the photo assessment, video consultation, treatment, local anaesthetic, aftercare and review. The cost page sets out the full list.

Results build over 3 to 6 months and can last up to 2 years. How long they last depends on age, skin quality, weight stability, sun exposure and smoking. Results vary from person to person, and nobody can promise a particular outcome.

Dr Seth's view "In men, the best candidates usually have a reasonable chin and jaw underneath, with softening along the jawline and a little fullness under the chin. If the real problem is a weak chin, tightening alone will disappoint, and I would rather say so at the start. I also look at weight. If a man is still losing weight, it often makes sense to wait until it is stable."

Questions people also ask

How soon will my jawline look sharper after Endolift?

Some tightening happens straight away as the fibrous bands under the skin contract, but early swelling usually hides it for the first days. The clearer change comes as collagen remodels, building over 3 to 6 months. Most men judge the result properly at the review, using photos taken in the same light and position.

Can Endolift replace a neck lift for men?

Only for some men. Endolift suits mild to moderate laxity and small fat pockets. If the neck skin is heavy and hanging, or the jowls are marked, a surgical neck lift or facelift usually gives a clearer result. A good assessment should tell you which group you fall into before you spend anything.

Will people at work notice I have had treatment?

For the first few days there may be swelling, some bruising and a compression strap on the neck for 3 to 4 days. Most men return to work the next day or within 48 hours. After that the change is gradual over months, so colleagues tend to notice a fresher look rather than an obvious procedure.

Does having a beard stop me having Endolift?

A beard does not usually rule out treatment, because the fibre works beneath the skin through a tiny entry point. It is still worth raising at your consultation, along with how you groom, so the plan and aftercare fit your face and routine.
