Patients often ask what recovery from Endolift will actually feel like, not in general terms but day by day. This diary describes the typical course, based on what most people experience. It is not a strict timetable. Some people recover faster and some slower, and the area treated makes a difference: the neck and under the chin often swell more than the cheeks, and body areas can stay tender for longer. If something you notice does not match this picture, contact the clinic that treated you.
Treatment day
The treatment itself takes about 60 to 90 minutes under local anaesthetic. A fibre 200 to 600 microns wide is passed beneath the skin through tiny entry points, so there are no incisions and no stitches. You will usually notice some tightness in the area straight away, because the 1470 nm laser contracts the fibrous bands under the skin.
When the anaesthetic wears off later that day, the area usually feels sore and swollen. For the neck and body, a compression garment or strap is fitted, to be worn for 3 to 4 days. Most people go home the same day and rest for the evening.
The first week
Day 1 to day 3
This is when swelling and tenderness are usually most noticeable. Bruising may appear, often near the entry points, and the treated skin may look red. The area can feel tight and numb. Many people feel well enough to return to work the next day or within 48 hours, particularly if their work is not physical. Sleeping with your head slightly raised helps facial swelling.
Day 4 to day 7
Swelling usually begins to ease and bruises start to change colour and fade. If you have been wearing a compression garment, you will usually stop around now as advised. Firm areas or small lumps where fat was treated are common and can feel strange to the touch. Numbness is often still present. There is more practical guidance in our article on aftercare in the first 7 days.
Weeks 2 to 8
Weeks 2 to 4
Most visible swelling and bruising has usually gone by now, although some residual swelling can linger, especially under the chin. Numbness and firmness tend to settle gradually over 1 to 2 weeks or longer. As feeling returns, you may notice tingling or itching, which is normal.
This can be a frustrating stage. The swelling that hid the early result is going, but the deeper collagen changes have only just started. Some people feel the area looks much as it did before. That is common and does not mean the treatment has failed.
Weeks 6 to 8
For many people this is when tightening becomes easier to see. The jawline may look sharper, jowling may look softer, and the area under the chin may look tighter. Results vary from person to person, and some see change earlier or later. Comparing photos taken in the same light and position is far more reliable than looking in the mirror each day. You can see examples on our before and after page.
Months 3 to 6
Results continue to build because the treatment starts collagen remodelling, in which weaker Type III collagen is gradually replaced by stronger Type I collagen. This process takes time, which is why improvement can continue for around 6 months. At TK Medispa a review with after photos, taken in the same light and position as the originals, is part of the treatment.
After 6 months the result is usually close to its final form. Results can last up to 2 years, depending on age, skin quality, weight stability, sun exposure and smoking. Our article on how long Endolift lasts explains this in more detail.
What can slow recovery down
Some things tend to make the early weeks harder. Strenuous exercise, saunas and very hot baths too soon can increase swelling. Removing a compression garment early can do the same for neck and body areas. Smoking slows healing and works against collagen. Medicines and supplements that affect bleeding can make bruising heavier, so mention them at your consultation. Significant weight change during the first 6 months can also affect how the result settles. None of these is a reason to panic if it happens, but they are worth avoiding where you reasonably can.
The diary at a glance
| Stage | What most people notice | What helps |
|---|---|---|
| Treatment day | Immediate tightness, then soreness and swelling | Rest, garment if fitted |
| Days 1 to 3 | Peak swelling, bruising, redness, numbness | Head raised at night, gentle routine |
| Days 4 to 7 | Swelling easing, firm areas, garment off for most | Follow aftercare, avoid strenuous exercise |
| Weeks 2 to 4 | Numbness and firmness settling, result not yet clear | Patience, sun protection |
| Weeks 6 to 8 | Tightening easier to see for many | Compare photos, not the mirror |
| Months 3 to 6 | Continued gradual improvement | Review appointment, steady weight |
Dr Seth's view "The hardest part of recovery is usually week 2 or 3, when the bruising has gone and people expect to see the final result. I tell patients to put the mirror aside and wait for the photos. The collagen is doing its work quietly, and it needs months, not days."

Questions people also ask
When can I go back to work after Endolift?
Most people return to work the next day or within 48 hours, although this varies with the area treated and the kind of work you do. Swelling and some bruising may still be visible, so if your job is very public facing you may prefer to allow a little longer.
Why does my result look better on day 1 than at week 3?
On the day there is immediate tightening from the fibrous bands contracting, plus swelling that can make the skin look smooth. As swelling goes, the area can look much as it did before. The longer collagen remodelling then builds the result gradually over 3 to 6 months.
When is the final Endolift result?
Improvement usually continues for around 6 months as collagen remodels, so the result is generally close to final by then. A review with photos taken in the same light and position as before treatment is the fairest way to judge it. Results vary between individuals.
